Argentina

Argentina, located in the South-East of the American continent, borders with Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil. The territory is divided into 23 provinces and one autonomous city, Buenos Aires, the capital of the nation and seat of the federal government. The average levels of human development, income per capita, level of economic growth and quality of life for the 40 million inhabitants figure among the highest in Latin America. Argentina’s population is the direct result of a migration flow which took place between 1850 and 1950, led primarily by Italians with Spaniards right behind them.

Argentina s the eighth largest country in the world and the second largest in Latin America. The country covers an area of 2.8 million square kilometres and could contain almost 3/4 of the EEC.

Argentina’s continental territory is located between the Andean mountain range, the Southern Atlantic Ocean and Antarctica. There are three main clearly-defined geographical areas in the country: plains in the central and northern areas, plateaus in the south, and mountains in the west

Given the country’s latitudinal extension and the varied geography, Argentina offers a host of climates. The climate is generally mild, although it turns subtropical in the north and subpolar in the south.

Argentina’s economy benefits from major natural resources, a highly literate population, a sector devoted to agricultural exports and a diversified industrial fabric. However, the country has suffered uneven financial results over its history.

In the early 20th century, it was one of the countries with the best financial forecasts in the world, but a slew of crises and adversities have had a negative effect on the country’s economy. At present, the Republic of Argentina is considered one of the main emerging economies.

Corrientes (where the plantations are based) spreads out over some 90,000 square kilometres, and has a population of almost 1,000,000 inhabitants, in other words 2.6% of the country’s total population. It is the sixteenth largest province in Argentina and the eleventh most populated unit. It is the only province in the country with two recognised official languages since 2005: Guaraní correntino and Spanish.

The province of Corrientes is located in the centre of Argentina’s mesopotamic region, in the north of the country, in the heart of La Plata Basin, which is crossed by rivers Paraguay and Paraná.

Corrientes produces tobacco, mate, tea, rice, citric fruits, and also has strong textile, timber and greenhouse industries.

As regards tourist attractions, the most notable include the Corrientes Carnival, which are the most traditional in Argentina.

A good part of Corrientes is occupied by the majestic Iberá Wetlands*, a unique nature reserve that is ideally suited to adventure tourism.

The average annual temperature is 21ºC, with July being the coldest month and January being the hottest.

Average rainfall in the area amounts to 1,316 mm. There are two periods with strong rainfall during the year, one in autumn (especially in April) and another in spring (mainly in October).

Plantations

Our plantations are located in the Guarani Aquifer, the second largest reserve of fresh water in the world after the poles. The aquifer located beneath the surface of four countries: Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay, in the subsoil of an area measuring approximately 1,190,000 square kilometres.
